Fashion shows are always a delightful treat for fashion enthusiasts, as they give us a glimpse into the latest styles and trends in the industry. The Tribal Chic show was no exception. The venue was transformed into a stunning runway, filled with glitz and glamour.

The designers had put in a lot of effort to create pieces that were not only beautiful but also innovative. The use of bold colors, intricate detailing, and unique silhouettes set the collections apart from one another.

The models exuded confidence as they strode down the runway, and their energy was contagious. The Tribe Hotel’s dedication to allowing humanity to coexist on one earth as one tribe is what motivates the sustainability concept. The choice of the hotel’s offerings and projects is heavily influenced by the interconnectedness between people and the environment.

The 12th iteration of Tribal Chic showcased a creative group of designers with conscientious designs crafted from organic, sustainable, and eco-friendly materials. African Lifestyle Hub, Seamline Atelier, Katush, Deepa Dosaja, Aulgah Nato, Vinkay Clothing, Koki Designs, Shenu Hooda, LakiKiko Romeoomeo, and We are NBO were among the artists on the schedule for this year.

Aulgah Nato is a Multi-award winning fashion brand that creates women’s dresses, and bridal and recently introduced ready-to-wear collections. Nato has become one of East Africa‘s foremost fashion labels, constantly raising the bar with each collection, and effortlessly dedicated to elevating the Kenyan fashion industry through her vision of delivering the best for the woman that embraces all aspects of femininity, sophistication, and elegant ease.

Mariam Couture, founded in July 2019, is a sustainable fashion brand that employs and empowers both men and women. The brand is deeply devoted to quality and equality – both in the products they make and the quality of life they aim to provide. “We invest in, train, and educate our employees so they can earn a better living by providing decent wages benefiting the livelihoods of our employees and creating a comfortable working environment at our workshop that runs on renewable energy and thrive whilst helping conscious consumers feel uplifted in high-quality, limited-edition designs that help support the livelihood of our local artisans.”

The House of Koki Designs started in 2009. The first collection was themed Piece for Somalia with the show stopper dressed in a fabulous hand-woven Ethiopian cotton bridal gown and structured long cape.
The founder of the Fashion house says her inspiration for the collection is nature ‘s symphony and treasures of hand-woven fabrics harmonized to make the show a wonderful feast for the eyes. It’s titled Temesgen‘ which means Thank You God in Amharic.

Studio Namnyak is a 3DDesign Studio born from a love of pattern making and a passion for innovating new ways to develop products while reducing wastage in the process. Namnyak the Designer believes that digital fashion is the future of the industry and hence every piece in this capsule has been designed, developed, patterned, and sampled digitally.

This increases efficiency while reducing material, energy, and time wastage in the design process. Her African Lifestyle Hub is a platform dedicated to supporting the Kenyan and African craft community by offering makers and entrepreneurs quality opportunities to showcase their work, grow their businesses, and make a living while doing it.

Seamline Atelier is a Ugandan Fashion Brand that deals in Ready-to-wear, Bespoke, and Avant-garde/costume Outfits. The Brand is strongly built around its Mission (to raise awareness towards the respect of social and economical aspects of life through Edu fashion) and vision (fashion as a voice; re-imagining a world based on respect of human dignity and other aspects of life) where when creating designs, they base on inspirations which help to come up with unique and strong designs.

Deepa Dosage is a pioneer in premium, sustainable fashion brands in Africa. The Deepa Dosage label
embodies beauty with a conscience. The brand only uses natural fabrics such as silk, bamboo, organic cotton, linens, and axolotls and is constantly looking for new innovative fabrics which have a low impact on the environment. The team at Deepa Dosaprideside itself in ensuring the highest levels of customer service and quality consciousness.

During the fashion show, the audience was treated to a brief intermission, giving them a chance to catch their breath and take in all the stunning pieces that had been showcased so far. The atmosphere during the break was lively, with guests discussing their favourite looks and admiring each other’s outfits.

The break also offered a chance for attendees to indulge in a range of refreshments, including delicious hors d’oeuvres, Champagne, and other beverages. As they mingled and socialized, the buzz of excitement and anticipation could be felt in the air, as everyone looked forward to the next set of designs that would soon hit the runway.

Overall, the short break was a welcome respite from the fast-paced excitement of the fashion show, and provided a memorable moment for the guests to connect, network and simply relax in a beautiful setting. The fashion show resumed after the short break with an even greater level of energy and excitement. The next set of designs was even more breathtaking than the first, showcasing the designer’s mastery of colour, texture, and silhouette. The models strode down the runway with confidence, showcasing each piece with grace and poise.

As the show progressed, the guests were treated to a range of styles, from elegant evening gowns to edgy streetwear. The designer’s versatility was on full display, and each new look received thunderous applause from the audience.

The continuation of the fashion show was a testament to the designer’s talent and creativity and solidified their place as one of the industry’s most sought-after talents.

The influences and experiences of Katungulu Mwendwa‘s upbringing primed her for a career in design. Born to a bass-playing architect and a plant-loving psychologist, she spent school holidays in her grandmother‘s curio shop in Nairobi, where she first became familiar with artisan collectives like eastern Kenya‘s Akamba group, suppliers of some of the store‘s unique trinkets at the time.

Sors Studio was founded in Tehran, Iran in 2017 by Sara Amiri, SepidehKaviani, and Bahareh Rahmani Given their academic and professional background, they have an architecture-oriented approach to fashion.

Sors seeks to create clothes as spatial structures on the body by transforming two- dimensional surfaces into three-dimensional volumes.

In its designs, Sors uses techniques like folding, tucking, and pleating, as well as the common
characteristics between architecture and fashion, such as double-skin facades and transparency.

A heritage brand, widely credited with transforming fashion in Kenya, and mentoring many designers and artisans over the last two decades, KikoRomeo meaning ―Adam‘s Apple‖ in Kiswahili was founded in 1996. Transcending cultures and fashion trends, KikoRomeo puts sustainability at its core, striving to create longevity in each garment by using handmade and hand-dyed fabrics as well as hand-carved trims, sourced from the African continent. The fabrics come mainly from natural fibers including cotton, linens, and silk, as well as explorations into alternative fibers such as those derived from sisal and orange peel. KikoRomeo‘s silhouettes are effortlessly elegant, with attention to detail, and are treasured as works of art by all those who wear them.

The fashionable crowd at the latest fashion show was just as captivating as the designs on the runway. From the moment the guests arrived, it was clear that this was a gathering of the crème de la crème of the fashion industry.
